Goucher Comes Back To Defeat Rowan, 15-14

GLASSBORO, NJ – Attack Sandy Okun scored with 2:43 remaining to give Goucher College a 15-14 victory over Rowan University on Saturday.
 
Okun (so. Stevenson, MD/McDonough School) found the back of the net off of a feed from midfielder Kate Knitter (jr. Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) to break a 14-14 tie. Goucher went on a 4-0 run over the final 11:26. Okun had two goals, while attacks Emily Blatter (jr. Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) and Whitney Groseclose (sr. Boyce, VA/Mercersburg Academy) each had one. The Gophers outscored the Profs 7-3 in the second period.
 
Goucher went ahead 6-3 at 13:35 after a stretch of four consecutive goals. Blatter scored three and Okun had one. Rowan fought back with five straight goals over the next nine minutes. Attack Lauren Crennan (so. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and midfielder Kelly Angstadt (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored two goals apiece, while defender Shana Smeriglio (sr. Ocean, NJ/Ocean Twp.) had one. After two goals by Goucher, Rowan scored three in a row to close out the half. Attack Caitlin Meseroll (jr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.), Angstadt and Smeriglio each had one goal. The Profs led 11-8 at halftime.
 
Blatter finished the game with six goals and one assist. Midfielder Marlo Tersigni (so. Leominster, MA/Lawrence Academy) added four goals, while Okun had three. Groseclose contributed with two goals and Knitter recorded three assists.
 
For Rowan, Angstadt and Smeriglio each scored four goals. Angstadt also had two assists. Crennan totaled three goals and two assists and attack Katie Kline (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) had one goal and two assists. Meseroll and midfielder Alayna Morris (fr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) each hit the net once. Defender Maureen Doyle (sr. Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) assisted on one goal.
 
The Profs outshot the Gophers, 32-27. Goucher goalie Janna Kaufman (sr. Atlanta, GA/Walton) made 13 saves. Goalie Katherine Rowland (sr. Freehold, NJ/St. John Vianney) stopped eight shots and goalie Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) turned away one shot for Rowan.
 
Rowan travels to Stevens Tech on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m.
