Eastern Holds On For 13-12 Win Over Rowan

ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Eastern University women’s lacrosse team held on the last 10 minutes of the game for a 13-12 win over Rowan University on Thursday.
 
The Eagles (7-2) were led by midfielder Kate Hoy (sr. Tully, NY/Tully) with four goals. Midfielder Jessie Basch (so. Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) contributed with three goals and recorded six assists. Midfielders Christine Hickman (sr. Marstons Mills, MA/Barnstable) and Erin Reimel (so. Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) each added two goals while defender Courtney Brennan (so. Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Reg.) and attack Amy Norman (sr. Asburn, VA/Stonebridge) had one apiece.
 
For Rowan (5-7), attack Katie Kline (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored three goals while attacks Lauren Crennan (so. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Tori Hart (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) followed with two apiece. Attacks Carly Welsh (so. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) and Caitlin Meseroll (jr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.), midfielder Alayna Morris (fr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) and defender Jackie McGarrigle (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) all had one goal.
 
Both teams totaled 25 shots.  In the Eagles’ goal, Jenn Van Ness (sr. Southampton, NJ/Lenape) stopped six shots. Goalies Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) and Katherine Rowland (sr. Freehold, NJ/St. John Vianney) shared the Profs’ duties and each made five saves.
 
At the half, Eastern was ahead 7-5. Hart scored with 20:08 left in the game to cut the deficit to one goal (8-7). The Eagles went back up by two after Hickman had an unassisted goal and Reimel scored with a pass from Basch. With 13:33 on the clock, Smeriglio hit the net with an assist from Morris and the Profs trailed 12-9. Hoy scored Eastern’s final goal at the 10:15 mark. Rowan rallied for three straight scores to end the game. Morris, Meseroll and Crennan each scored once. 
 
In the first period, Kline put Rowan on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 3:20. Eastern answered with four straight, Basch scored twice while Hoy and Reimel each had one goal. Kline and Welsh each had a goal to pull within one (5-4) with 9:20 left in the half. The Eagles led 7-4 after Norman and Fries both scored with an assist from Basch. Crennan netted the last goal with Kline assisting at 28:40.
