Rowan Earns Road Win Over Widener, 5-2

 
CHESTER, PA – The Rowan University baseball team defeated Widener University, 5-2 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.
 
Rowan improves to 12-11, while Widener has an 18-8 record. Right hander Robert Rose (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) pitched three innings, allowing one earned run and striking out four batters for his third win. It was predetermined before the game that Rose would only go three innings. Closer Tyler Dempsey (sr. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) threw the last two innings without allowing a run for his third save. Right hander Todd McGee (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) was credited with the loss for the Pride.
 
Right fielder Tim Edmeads (sr. Newfield, NJ/Buena Reg.) went three for four with one run scored, one RBI and two doubles. Shortstop Tim Barnshaw (so. Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) had two hits in four trips to the plate and one RBI. Third baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) added three hits (five at bats) and a double. Catcher Paul Urbanovich (jr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) scored twice and drove in one run.
 
Rowan took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning. Urbanovich came home on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Frank Mullin (so. Westville, NJ/West Deptford) and Barnshaw had a RBI single. Rowan added three runs in the third. Edmeads doubled in the first run and came home on a fielder’s choice by Urbanovich. Urbanovich scored the final run on an error. Widener scored two runs in the bottom half, but Rowan held on for the victory.
 
Rowan travels to William Paterson University for a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Thursday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
