Heidelberg Defeats Rowan, 5-3 In Florida Trip Opener

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – The Heidelberg College (OH) baseball team had a 5-3 win over Rowan University on Friday morning. It was the Profs’ first game of their Florida trip.

Rowan had two hits in four at bats from third baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.), left fielder Frank Hasenauer (jr. Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) and catcher Bobby Fox (jr. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.). Ready also scored two runs. Designated hitter Miguel Sosa (jr. Miami, FL/Barbara Goleman) contributed with two RBIs.

Heidelberg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Shortstop Matt Decker drove in the first run with a double and designated hitter Matt Hille singled in the second. Third baseman Tony Pawlowicz recorded a three run homer in the seventh for a 5-0 advantage. Rowan got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom half. Fox had a RBI single that scored Ready. Sosa reached first on an error and Hasenauer scored. The Profs’ last run came in the ninth inning. Ready came home on a fielder’s choice and Sosa was at the plate.

Heidelberg concluded its seven game Florida schedule with a 5-2 mark. The Profs are 2-2 on the season. Rowan’s next game is on Saturday, March 10 against Mount Union College (OH) at 9 a.m.
