CHESTER, PA – Aaron Braxton broke his own school record en route to taking second place in the discus at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Saturday. The meet was an individual competition.
Braxton’s (so. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) throw of 173’3” (52.81 meters) surpassed the University record (167’10”, 51.15 meters), which he set last week. His toss was better than the NCAA automatic qualifier (172’3”, 52.50 meters). Braxton also finished second in the shot put with 50’10” (15.49 meters).
The 4x400 meter relay finished second with a time of 3:22.66. The relay consisted of Tim Bowser (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville), Taylor Kirk (fr. Oceanport, NJ/Shore Reg.), Joseph Minch (sr. Yardville, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) and Chima Nwosu (sr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing). In the javelin, Sean Biehn (fr. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) and Sean Corey (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) took second (187’7” (57.19 meters)) and third (186’10” (56.96 meters)) respectively. Bowser was second in the high jump with 6’6” (1.98 meters). Anthony Witter (jr. Millville, NJ/Bridgeton) came in fourth in the long jump with 21’0” (6.40 meters) and seventh in the shot put with 45’11.75” (14.01 meters). Val Terebizh (fr. Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) finished eighth in the long jump with 20’3.5” (6.18 meters). Nehemiah Burney-Porter (fr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) took seventh in the triple jump with 42’6.25” (12.96 meters).
Bryan Pittman (sr. New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) was seventh in the 100 (11.39) and 200 meter dash (22.96). Nwosu had a fifth place in the 400 meter dash in 50.79 and Kirk was seventh in 51.07. Kevin Gauntt (fr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) came in fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.71, while Burney-Porter and Michael Muldowney (fr. Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central) took ninth (16.31) and 10th (16.47) respectively.
For the women, Eileen Batten (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) had a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 110’9” (33.75 meters). Michele Lala (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) tied for third in the high jump with 5’0” (1.52 meters). In the shot put, Ali Briggs (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) came in fourth place with 36’2.75” (11.04 meters) and Karen Johnson (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) was ninth with 34’5” (10.49 meters).
The 4x100 meter relay of Chereyse Hepburn (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Oakcrest), Dannielle Warren (so. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), Batten and Jessica Roy (fr. Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) took fourth place in 53.17. Warren finished sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.61) and Hepburn was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.84).
