Rowan Splits Doubleheader At Haverford

HAVERFORD, PA – The Rowan University softball team split a double header at Haverford College on Thursday. Rowan won the first game, 4-3 and Haverford came back to take the second, 3-2.

Right hander Danielle Lawlor (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) was the winning pitcher in the first game. Lawlor (8-1) scattered four hits and had three strikeouts. Third baseman Kristin Wallace (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) went two for four with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored. Right fielder Heidi Smith (fr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) contributed with two hits (three at bats), one RBI and one run scored. Center fielder Kristina Brenner (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) added one RBI and designated player Jen Lake (sr. Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) had two hits (four at bats).

Haverford had a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Rowan tied the score in the top of the fourth. Smith singled in the first run and scored on Brenner’s hit. The Fords went up 3-2 with one run in the bottom half. The Profs took the lead in the fifth inning on Wallace’s two run homer. It was her fifth home run on the season.

Fords’ pitcher Becky Garibotto got the win on the mound in the second game and Samantha Fontinell earned a save. Garibotto went the first five innings while Fontinelli pitched the final two. Right hander Amanda Riegel (jr. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) took the loss. Riegel gave up three runs, two were earned and struck out four batters. The Profs had one RBI from shortstop Jenna DiDonato (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and designated player Kim Ryan (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick).

Haverford had a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in the first and third innings. Rowan tied the score with two runs in the fourth. Ryan’s double to center field scored pinch runner Loren Pashley (fr. Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon). Pashley replaced Lake who got on a base with a single. DiDonato had a RBI single that brought home Ryan. The Fords recorded the winning run in the fifth inning. First baseman Natalie Richman drove in the run with a single.

The Fords are 10-6 overall and the Profs have a 12-6 record. Rowan starts is conference schedule at Kean University on Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m.
