GLASSBORO, NJ – The Ursinus College women’s lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 15-9 on Tuesday.
The Bears improve to 5-2, while the Profs have a 3-5 record. Attack Kaitlin Glenn (jr. Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) and midfielder Lisa Clark (so. Media, PA/Penncrest) each scored three goals. Defender Amy Sezack (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) followed with two goals and two assists. Midfielders Jenna Werley (so. Springfield, PA/Springfield) and Elizabeth Cannon (fr. Garrison, NY/James I. O’Neil) contributed with two goals apiece. Attacks Stephanie Kaysen (jr. Media, PA/Penncrest) and Natalie Schroeter (sr. Reisterstown, MD/Garrison Forest) each had one goal and one assist, while attack Logan Conklin (sr. Yardley, PA/George School) found the net once.
For Rowan, attack Katie Kline (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored three goals and midfielder Alayna Morris (fr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) added two. Defender Shana Smeriglio (sr. Ocean, NJ/Ocean Twp.), attacks Lauren Crennan (so. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Tori Hart (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and midfielder Kelly Angstadt (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) chipped in with one goal apiece.
Rowan outshot Ursinus, 30-27. Goalie Allyson Shicora (jr. Media, PA/Strath Haven) made 14 saves for the Bears. Goalie Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) started in goal for Rowan and stopped four shots in 37:35. Goalie Katherine Rowland (sr. Freehold, NJ/St. John Vianney) turned away six shots in 22:25.
Rowan jumped out to a 2-0 lead after unassisted goals by Kline (5:03) and Morris (5:34). Ursinus scored four straight goals to lead 4-2 at 16:51. Clark had two goals, while Werley and Schroeter each had one. Kline cut the deficit in half with an unassisted goal at 17:17. After a goal by Glenn (22:28), Rowan tied the game at five following goals by Morris (23:40) and Kline (29:22). Conklin put back a shot with 19 seconds remaining in the period for a 6-5 halftime advantage.
In the second stanza, Cannon converted a free position shot at 32:40 to put Ursinus up 7-5. Hart made a free position shot at 35:41. Ursinus scored five straight goals over a 13 minute span for a 12-6 lead. Cannon, Kaysen, Werley, Glenn and Sezack recorded one goal apiece. Smeriglio (51:10), Angstadt (54:21) and Crennan (55:11) had the next three goals to come within three (12-9). Glenn (56:32), Clark (57:26) and Sezack (58:05) closed out the scoring for Ursinus.
Rowan travels to Kean University on Thursday, March 29 for a 4 p.m. contest.
