GLASSBORO, NJ – Designated hitter Tim Edmeads had three hits and two RBIs to lead Rowan University in a 5-1 victory over visiting Elizabethtown College on Tuesday.
Edmeads (sr. Newfield, NJ/Buena Reg.) had a triple and scored one run. Left fielder Brian McLaughlin (sr. Glendora, NJ/Triton Reg.) contributed with three hits (three at bats), a double and one run scored. First baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) added two hits and scored one run. Center fielder Roger Turley (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury), third baseman Bruce Reibis (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) and pinch hitter Rob Ritterson (jr. Sewell, NJ/George Washington (PA)) each had one RBI.
Right hander Robert Rose (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) pitched 5.2 scoreless innings for his second victory on the year. Rose (2-1) only gave up four hits and he struck out six batters. Right hander Kevin O’Hara (so. Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) earned a save. In 1.2 innings, O’Hara did not allow a hit and he had three strikeouts.
For Elizabethtown (9-5), center fielder Mike Donahue (sr. Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) went one for three and scored one run. Right hander Adam Hartzell (fr. Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) took the loss for the Blue Jays. Hartzell (0-2) pitched six innings and gave up four runs, two were earned.
The Profs got on the scoreboard with one run in the bottom of the third inning. Turley reached first on an error and McLaughlin scored. McLaughlin led off with a single and went to second on shortstop Tim Barnshaw’s (so. Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) single. They both advanced a base on a sac bunt by second baseman Roland Rodriguez (fr. Miami, FL/Miami Killian).
Rowan lead 4-0 after three runs in the sixth inning. Edmeads drove in two runs with a triple to center field. He came home on Reibis’ sacrifice fly. Elizabethtown’s lone run came in the top of the eighth inning. Donahue scored on a wild pitch. Rowan had its last run in the bottom half. Catcher Dan Krause (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) reached first on an error. He later crossed home plate on a sac fly by Ritterson.
