READING, PA – Catcher Paul Urbanovich and second baseman Joe Franceschini each recorded three RBIs to lead Rowan University over host Alvernia College, 11-3 on Sunday.
Urbanovich (jr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) went three for three with a double, one home run and three runs scored. Franceschini (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) contributed with two hits, a home run and scored one run. Center fielder Roger Turley (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and third baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) had three hits (five at bats) and two RBIs apiece.
Right hander Brian McLaughlin (sr. Glendora, NJ/Triton Reg.) pitched three innings in relief for the victory. McLaughlin (1-1) scattered four hits and struck out four. Left hander Ryan Kulik (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) started the game and totaled eight strikeouts in six innings.
For Alvernia (6-6), first baseman Zach Lutz (jr. Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) went three for four with three RBIs and two runs scored. His hits included two home runs and a triple. He led off in the seventh inning with a solo home run that tied the score at two.
Rowan went ahead with four runs in the top of the eighth. Franceschini had a three run homer and Ready doubled in Urbanovich. The Profs added five more runs in the ninth. Turley drove in two runs with a single to right field and Urbanovich blasted a three run shot to center field. In the bottom half, Lutz had his second home run to left center field.
In the third inning, Ready put the Profs on the scoreboard with a RBI single, scoring Urbanovich. Urbanovich got on base with a double. Alvernia tied the scored in the fourth inning when Lutz tripled in a run. Rowan went up 2-1 in the sixth. First baseman Shawn Counard (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) drove in the run with a single to right field.
Rowan (6-6) has a rescheduled game at Salisbury University on Monday, March 26 at 3 p.m.
