GLASSBORO, NJ – The York College (PA) baseball team shutout Rowan University, 5-0 on Thursday.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 9-4. The Profs have a 5-6 record. Right handed pitcher Matt Austin (so. Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) went the distance, scattering four hits and striking out four batters to improve to 3-0 on the season. Left hander Gary Winkler (jr. Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) allowed five earned runs and recorded five strikeouts in the loss.
York was led by designated hitter Mike Connolly (fr. Selden, NY/Newfield) with four hits (five at bats), two doubles and one run scored. Shortstop Jeff Young (sr. Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) went two for four with one run scored and one RBI. Left fielder Mark Miloski (fr. Calverton, NY/Riverhead) added two hits in three trips to the plate and two runs scored, while second baseman Ryan Craig (so. Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) was one for four with one run scored and one RBI.
For Rowan, right fielder Tim Edmeads (sr. Newfield, NJ/Buena Reg.) contributed with one hit (three at bats) and a double. Second baseman Joe Franceschini (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.), center fielder Roger Turley (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and first baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) had one hit apiece.
York scored one run in the third, fifth and sixth innings. In the third, first baseman Anthony Anzalone (fr. Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) singled in Miloski. Young had a RBI single in the fifth and right fielder Dennis Maxim’s (jr. Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. Anthony’s) sacrifice fly plated Connolly in the sixth inning. The Spartans added two runs in the seventh. Craig doubled to right field, scoring Young. Center fielder Ryan Poff (so. York, PA/Spring Grove) had a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Craig.
Rowan hosts Franklin & Marshall College in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 24 at noon.
