CHESTERTOWN MD – Midfielder Kelly Angstadt scored four goals to lead the Rowan University women’s lacrosse team to a 16-10 victory over host Washington College (MD) on Thursday.
Attacks Katie Kline (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) and Tori Hart (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) each totaled three goals and one assist. Attack Caitlin Meseroll (jr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) added three goals, while midfielder Therese Jones (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had one. Attack Carly Welsh (so. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) contributed with one goal and three assists and midfielder Alayna Morris (fr. Columbia, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) recorded one goal and one assist.
For the Shorewomen (3-4), attack Suzie Jakub (so. University Park, MD/St. Johns College) scored a game-high five goals. Midfielders Brittany Lambert (so. Riva, MD/South River) and Melanie Ruppert (sr. Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) had one goal and two assists apiece. Midfielder Jenna Gouck (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) and defender Lindsay Fox (jr. Laurel, MD/Atholton) each chipped in with one goal and one assist.
Both teams took 31 shots. Rowan goalie Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, NJ/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made nine saves. Goalie Mollie Binotto (sr. Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) stopped nine shots for Washington.
Jakub put Washington up 1-0 at 1:50 in the first half. Rowan scored four straight goals over the next nine minutes for a 4-1 lead. Hart, Welsh, Meseroll and Angstadt (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) each had one goal. Jakub’s second goal cut the deficit to two (4-2) at 11:13. The Profs scored the next four goals for an 8-2 advantage at 15:42. Hart, Angstadt, Morris and Kline each found the net once. The Shorewomen outscored Rowan 3-2 over the final 14:18 to make the score 10-5 at halftime.
In the second period, Washington scored three goals in the first seven minutes to pull within two goals (10-8). Angstadt, Jones and Meseroll had the next three goals, respectively to put Rowan ahead 13-8. The Profs finished the game with one goal each from Angstadt, Meseroll and Kline, while attack Caitlin Beane (sr. University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) and Fox scored for the Shorewomen.
Rowan (3-3) hosts Montclair State University on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
