Profs Win One On Final Day At Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team returns from its spring trip with a 10-4 record. On the last day, Rowan lost to Marietta College (OH), 6-2 and came back to win 2-0 over the College of Mount St. Joseph (OH).

Against Marietta, first baseman Jamie Assini (sr. Deptford, NJ/East Brunswick) went two for three. Pitcher Amanda Riegel (jr. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) suffered the loss. Riegel (4-3) gave up eight hits and had four strikeouts.

Rowan got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the second inning. Left fielder Stacy Haas (sr. Florence, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) singled in designated player Kim Ryan (sr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick). Ryan got on base with a walk. Shortstop Jenna DiDonato (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had a single and later came home on an error. Marietta went up with four runs in the third inning and added two more runs in the fourth.

Pitcher Danielle Lawlor (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) recorded the shutout against Mount St. Joseph. Lawlor (6-1) only allowed two hits and struck out six. Both of the Profs’ runs came in the bottom of the second inning. Shortstop Sarah Carangelo (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored on an error after reaching first with a single. Assini had a sacrifice bunt that brought home Haas.

Rowan is scheduled to have its home opener on Tuesday, March 20 against the College of Staten Island at 2:30 p.m.
