Rowan Splits With Penn State Behrend And Rhode Island

KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball defeated Penn State Behrend, 4-1 in the first game on Tuesday and was shutout in the second, 4-0 by Rhode Island College.

Against Penn State Behrend, right hander Danielle Lawlor (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) went the distance on the mound for her fourth win. Lawlor (4-1) scattered five hits and struck out two. Second baseman Lauren Navarro (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) went two for three with two runs scored. Third baseman Kristin Wallace (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) contributed with two hits (three at bats), a double, one RBI and one run scored. Designated player Jen Lake (sr. Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) contributed with two hits (three at bats) and two RBIs.

The Profs scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning. Wallace doubled in Navarro who got on base with a single. The Lions tied the game in the top of the sixth. In the bottom half, Rowan had three runs. Designated player Jen Lake (sr. Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) had two RBIs with a double that brought home Navarro and Wallace. Lake was replaced by pinch runner Loren Pashley (fr. Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) who scored on an error single.

Pitcher Amanda Riegel (jr. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) took the loss against Rhode Island. Riegel (3-2) pitched six innings and gave up one earned run. Lake had the Profs’ lone hit and she went one for two.

Rowan has an overall record of 7-3. Rhode Island College has won four straight games and is 4-1 on the season. Penn State Behrend has a 2-3 mark.

Rowan’s next competition is on Wednesday, March 14 against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 1 p.m. and Webster University at 3 p.m.
