TAMPA, FL – Rhode Island College earned its first victory of the season by defeating Rowan University, 13-5 on Monday. The game was played at the University of Tampa.
Rhode Island has a 1-3 record and Rowan is 3-4. Right hander Wade Briggs threw 7.2 innings for the win. He allowed 10 hits and five earned runs, while striking out six batters. Right handed pitcher Robert Rose (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) gave up three earned runs in 2.2 innings for the loss.
The Anchormen scored six runs in the third inning and five in the fourth to jump out to an 11-0 lead. In the third, third baseman Peter Olson drove in two runs with a triple and scored on an error. First baseman Jim Connell drove in a run with a single and center fielder Robert Doyon’s single scored two runners. Left fielder Chris O’Connors recorded a RBI single, shortstop Josh Cardoso had a two run single and Connell knocked in one run in the fourth. Rowan got on the scoreboard with two runs in the sixth inning. Left fielder Frank Hasenauer (jr. Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) had a one out solo home run and first baseman Tom Ready’s (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) single plated center fielder Roger Turley (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury).
The Profs added three runs in the eighth inning. Catch Dan Krause (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) record a sacrifice fly that scored the first run. Third baseman Bruce Reibis (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) hit a two run homer. Rhode Island scored two runs in the bottom half on a two RBI single by Doyon.
