Braxton Finishes Seventh At NCAA Championships

TERRE HAUTE, IN – Rowan University’s Aaron Braxton took seventh place in the shot put at the NCAA Division III Men’s Indoor Track Championships on Saturday. The national championships were held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

In the finals, Braxton (so. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) had a throw of 52’ 6.75” (16.02 meters) for All-America honors. He advanced from the first round with 50’ 4” (15.34 meters). The shot put was won by Wis.-La Crosse’s Bobby Riley with a distance of 57’ 3” (17.45 meters).

Braxton qualified for nationals with a throw of 54’ 7.5” (16.65 meters). He was fourth overall among the 12 entrants. This was his first appearance at the NCAA Championships.

This indoor season, Braxton won the shot put four times and took second once at the six meets he competed at. He was the New Jersey Athletic Conference champion with a toss of 52’ 7.25” (16.03 meters). In addition, he was the winner at the John Covert Lehigh Classic (54’ 7.5”, 16.65 meters), at the Frank Colden Invitational (52’ 8”, 16.05 meters) and at the Thomson Invitational (51’ 9”, 15.77 meters). Braxton was second at the New York University Fast Track (53’ 2.75”, 16.22 meters).

All five of his finishes were NCAA provisionals. The NCAA’s provisional is 51’ 0” (15.54 meters) and the automatic is 55’ 8.25” (17 meters).
