Rowan Wins 12-5 Over Mount Union

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – Left hander Joe Cichy pitched eight innings to lead Rowan University over Mount Union College, 12-5 on Saturday.
 
Cichy (jr. Vineland, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) scattered eight hits and struck out five for his second win. Left fielder Frank Hasenauer (jr. Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) went four for five with two RBIs and one run scored. Shortstop Roland Rodriguez (fr. Miami, FL/Miami Killian) contributed with three hits (three at bats), a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. First baseman Tom Ready (so. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) and catcher Paul Urbanovich (jr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peters’ Prep) each added two hits and two RBIs. Urbanovich recorded a double and a triple while Ready had a triple.
 
Rowan improves to 3-2 on the season. Mount Union has an overall record of 2-5. For the Purple Raiders, shortstop Josh Faltot went three for five with a triple and one RBI. Left fielder Andy Warner totaled three hits in five trips to the plate.
 
The score was tied at one after the fourth inning. The Profs racked up eight runs in the top of the fifth. Right fielder Tim Edmeads (sr. Newfield, NJ/Buena Reg.) singled in a run and Ready followed with a two RBI single. Urbanovich tripled in Ready for the fourth run and later scored on a wild pitch. Rodriguez had a RBI double and Hasenauer singled in two runs.
 
The Profs added a run in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Left fielder Roger Turley (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) drove in the run in the seventh with a single. Urbanovich had a RBI double in the eighth and second baseman Michael Diaz (fr. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) scored on a wild pitch in the ninth.
Rowan continues its Florida trip on Sunday, March 11 against SUNY Cortland at 3:30 p.m.
