KUTZTOWN, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams swept host Kutztown University in the final dual meet of the season. The Prof men won 135.50-109.50 while the women had a 157-103 victory.
The Rowan men are 6-3 overall and the women have an 8-1 mark. Kutztown’s men’s team is 4-3 on the season and the women have a 3-6 record.
The Rowan men took first place in the 200 medley relay (1:39.95) with Kevin Baker (jr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), Kevin Ovalle (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Kevin Wallace (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Andrew Williams (jr. Bensalem, PA/Father Judge). The Prof men also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.35). The free relay consisted of Dan Kelley (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ./A.P. Schalick), Nick Giacopelli (sr. Hillsborough/Hillsborough), Wallace and Andrew Donachy (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.).
Baker had first places in three individual events. He was the winner in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.82), the 200 breaststroke (2:14.51) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.84). Giacopelli finished first in the 200 (1:47.44) and 100 (50.09) freestyles. Kelley won the 50 freestyle (22.69) and took second in the 100 free (50.24). Donachy won the 100 backstroke (56.37) followed by Chris Sykes (sr. Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Reg.) second (56.67). In the 200 butterfly, Jeremy Soto (fr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) finished first (2:03.79) while Wallace was second (2:05.28). Wallace also had a first place in the 100 butterfly (55.14). Williams finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:05.35).
The Rowan women won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.71. Janina Wojcik (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Aileen Milde (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury), Christine DiRubbo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Alicia Mackleer (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) were on the free relay. The women’s 200 medley relay finished in second place (1:55.10) with Stephanie McAllister (fr Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Samantha King (fr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City), Wojcik and DiRubbo.
Caitlin Ayres (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) was a double winner with first places in the 1,000 freestyle (11:03.91) and the 200 butterfly (2:15.47). Carey Lafferty (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) finished second in the 1,000 (11:10.06) and 500 (5:27.39) freestyles. Ashley Gagnon (fr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) was second in the 200 butterfly (2:19.19) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:27.54). Mackleer took second in the 100 free (56.43) followed by Milde third (56.78) and DiRubbo fourth (56.97). King had second places in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.37) and the 200 individual medley (2:17.51).
In the 100 backstroke, Rowan took first through third place with McAllister (1:03.71), Mackleer (1:05.30) and Becky Goldberg (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) (1:06.41). McAllister also won the 200 backstroke (2:16.26) and Goldberg was second (2:20.40). Wojcik was the winner in the 50 freestyle (25.67) while Mackleer was second (25.86) and DiRubbo was third (26.22). In addition, Wojcik won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.66 followed by Milde second (1:03.93).
