GLASSBORO, NJ – Guard Jenna Shenk scored 24 points and broke the school record for career three-pointers in Richard Stockson’s 82-74 conference win over Rowan University.
Shenk (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Bishop Eustace) made four threes, giving her 156 in her career, two more than the previous mark. Guard Lisa Neira (jr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) had 20 points, including nine of 10 free throws. Forward Alicia Morris (sr. Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) contributed with 11 points and six rebounds. Guard Michele Auerbacher (jr. Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) added nine points, grabbed six rebounds, and had four steals.
Forward Lauren Byrne (sr. Paulsboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) led Rowan with a double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds, in the last game of her career. Guards Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) and Brynn DeGroff (so. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) had 15 points each. Wallace was nine for 11 from the foul line and had eight assists. DeGroff scored all of her points from beyond the arc with five three-pointers. Guard Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) was also in double figures with 10 points.
Rowan was ahead 35-30 at halftime. In the second period, Rowan was able to maintain its lead over the first seven minutes and had a five point advantage (42-37) with 13:32 to play. The Ospreys took the lead (48-42) with an 11-0 run over the next 2:51. Neira had six points in the stretch. The Profs rallied back to tie the game at 48 with 9:16 left behind four points from Byrne. Stockton answered with 16 of the next 21 points, including two three-pointers by Shenk and one from Neira, to take a 64-53 lead with 4:15 remaining. Rowan cut the deficit to four (65-61) with two minutes remaining. Stockton went 17 for 20 from the foul line in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
In the first half, Stockton jumped out to a 10-4 lead at 13:54 following a three-pointer by Shenk. Rowan answered quickly with seven of the next nine points to make the score 12-11 at 12:42. DeGroff hit her first three-pointer in the stretch. The Ospreys built the lead to seven points (22-15), their biggest of the half, over the next 4:27. The Profs responded again with 11 straight points, including two DeGroff three-pointers, to go up 26-22 with 5:31 to go in the half. Shenk hit her second three-pointer to make it 26-25. Massara spurred a 9-2 Rowan run with two steals for layups giving the Profs a 35-27 lead with 2:13 left. Guard Kim Herriger (fr. Howell, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) hit a jumper and a free throw to bring Richard Stockton within five points (35-30) at intermission.
The win improves Richard Stockton to 13-12 overall and 8-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Stockton clinched second place in the NJAC South Division and will host a NJAC tournament first round game on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:00. Rowan finishes its season with a 9-16 overall record and 2-11 mark in the conference.
