UNION, NJ – Rowan University had four players score in double figures in an 88-68 road win over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Kean University on Thursday.

Guard Thomas Baker (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) had a game-high 28 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Forward Matt Byrnes (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) added 16 points and 10 boards. Guards Tim Bowser (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) and Kevin Darby (so. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) contributed with 13 and 11 points respectively. Forward Dwayne Reevey (jr. Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) grabbed eight rebounds, while guard Dan Reddan (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) and Darby had seven boards apiece.

Rowan improves to 19-5 overall and 8-4 in the conference. Kean has a 13-11 overall record and a 4-8 NJAC mark. For the Cougars, guard Lamar Wright (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) scored 20 points. Forward Bryan Keller (sr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) followed with 10 points and guard Bryan Miller (sr. Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) added nine.

Rowan had a 41-34 halftime advantage. The Profs started the second period with an 11-2 run over the first 3:35 for a 16 point lead (52-36). Byrnes scored seven of the 11 points. Kean narrowed the deficit to 13 points (58-45) following a layup by forward Steve Koenigstein (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) at 12:39. It was the closest the Cougars would come. Rowan went up by 18 points (63-45) after two free throws by Baker at 11:23. The Profs’ largest lead was 23 points (80-57) with 5:34 remaining.

In the first half, the score was tied four times with the final time, 10-10 coming at 15:43. Kean went ahead by five points (15-10) following a three-pointer by Wright at 14:03. Rowan had a 9-1 surge over the next three minutes for a five point advantage (21-16). Byrnes had five points in the stretch. Koenigstein’s tip-in at 9:57 brought the Cougars within three points (24-21). An 11-2 run put Rowan up by 12 points (35-23)at 6:14. Baker contributed seven of the 11 points. Kean cut the lead to five points (39-34) on a Wright’s layup with 1:25 left. Baker and Wright each had 12 points at intermission.

Rowan hosts Richard Stockton College on Saturday, February 17 at 3 p.m. The winner will clinch first place in the NJAC South Division and receive a bye in the first round of the NJAC Championship Tournament.
