NEWARK, DE– The Rowan University men’s indoor track team took third place at the Thomson Invitational on Saturday and the women finished sixth. The Thomson Invitational was held at the University of Delaware.
Four Profs were winners in the individual events. Aaron Braxton (so. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) threw 51’ 9” (15.77 meters) to win the shot put. It was the third time this season he recorded a NCAA provisional (51’ 0”, 15.54 meters). Chima Nwosu (sr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) was first in the 500 meters with a time of 1:08.70. Andrew Vasta (so. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) took first in the mile in 4:42.61. Nick Tyson (jr. Mt. Holly, NJ/Lenape) won the pole vault with a height of 12’ 9.5” (3.90 meters).
Anthony Witter (jr. Millville, NJ/Bridgeton) had a second place in the shot put with 46’ 10.25” (14.28 meters) and he was fifth in the long jump with 20’ 11.25” (6.38 meters). The men’s 4x400 meter relay finished second in 3:30.45. The relay included Taylor Kirk (fr. Oceanport, NJ/Shore Reg.), Dan Collier (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Joe Minch (sr. Yardville, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) and Nwosu. Minch took second in the 500 meters (1:09.33). In the mile, Michael Rivera (so. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) was third (4:46.56) and Phil Dunn (jr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was fifth (4:50.85).
Kevin Gauntt (fr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) had a fourth place in the 60 meter hurdles (8.80). Gauntt was also 13th in the 200 meters (25.47). Collier had an eighth place in the 400 meters (53.83). Bryan Pittman (sr. New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) took sixth in the 60 meters dash (7.21) and 11th in the 200 meters (24.84).
In the women’s events, Cheresye Hepburn (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Oakcrest) finished second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.96). In the shot put, Ali Briggs (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) took second place with a throw of 31’ 4” (9.55 meters) and Katie Christie (fr. Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) was fourth with 28’ 1” (8.56 meters).
Rowan’s next competition is at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Monday, February 19 at 3 p.m. The championships will be held at the John Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River, NJ.
