Rowan Wins 76-37 Over PSU Harrisburg to advance to Blue Jay Championship

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 76-37 over Penn State Harrisburg in the first round of the Blue Jay Classic on Friday night.

Rowan (4-2) plays host Elizabethtown College (4-2) on Saturday in the championship at 3 p.m. Prior Penn State Harrisburg meets Trinity College (CT) in the consolation game. In the first round, Elizabethtown defeated Trinity, 75-41.

Forward Jillian Kane (so. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) led the Profs with 12 points and seven rebounds. Guard Michele Lala (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) added nine points. Forwards Ashley Cieplicki (jr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) and Jessica Nimbley (so. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) each had eight points. Guard Gina Catanzariti (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) dished four assists. Rowan had a total of 13 players that contributed to the scoring.

For Penn State Harrisburg, guard Jamie Bissot scored a game-high 14 points and center Sandra Adames followed with 10 points. She hit the boards for 11 rebounds and recorded 12 blocks.

Rowan was ahead after the first half, 47-8. Kane ended the period with 10 points and six rebounds. The Profs started the game with 16 straight points in the first 5:10. Cieplicki totaled eight points while guard Brynn DeGroff (jr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) had four. Guard Nicole Perrini (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and Nimbley added two points apiece. At 8:57, Rowan was up by 31 points (34-3) after Kane’s layup. With 2:20 left, the Profs led 42-8 then they ended the half with five straight points. Forward Jamie Toy (jr. Alloway, NJ/Woodstown) had all five points.

Rowan’s biggest lead of the game was 46 points with 9:45 left in the second half. Kane hit a jumper that made the score 70-24. The Profs also led by 46 (74-28) after Toy’s layup with 6:53 remaining.
