GLASSBORO, NJ – Four players scored in double figures to lead the Rowan University women’s basketball team over visiting Chestnut Hill College, 71-66 on Friday night.

Guard Brynn DeGroff (jr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) led the Profs (6-4) with 13 points. Guard Kristina Wallace (sr. Logan Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and forward Kaitlin Guy (jr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) chipped in with 11 points apiece. Forward Jessica Nimbley (so. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

For the Griffins (2-6), forward Jenna Beck (so. Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower) scored a game-high 19 points. Beck also pulled down 11 boards that was a game-high. Forward Tara Walsh (sr. Woodbine, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) contributed with 11 points and six rebounds. Guard Katelin Formica (so. Schwenksville, PA/Lansdale Catholic) totaled six assists.

In the second half, guard Gina Catanzariti (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) made a basket and a foul shot at 11:32 that put Rowan up 46-43. Chestnut Hill followed with eight straight points for a five point advantage (51-46) at 8:06. The Griffins led 57-50 after Beck’s layup with 6:52 remaining. The score was tied three times before the Profs took the lead for good. The last one was at the 56 second mark when Formica’s two foul shots made the score 64-64. Rowan answered with a 7-2 run to win the game. Nimbley contributed with four points and Wallace had three.

All of Guy’s 11 points came in the final period. DeGroff contributed with eight points while Beck led the Griffins with 13 points.

The game was tied four times in the first half with the last one at 18 with 7:13 remaining. Formica had a basket that put Chestnut Hill on top 20-18 at 7:01. The Griffins led by seven
(25-18) after guard Marianne Finfrock (jr. Drexel Hill, PA/Haverford) hit a three-pointer with 4:54 remaining. The Griffins’ biggest lead was nine points (30-21) after Walsh nailed two free throws at 2:20. The Profs made five straight foul shots to cut the deficit to four (30-26) at the intermission. Wallace had the first two (1:59) while DeGroff was good for three (0:05). Finfrock and Wallace each ended the period with eight points.

After the holiday break, Rowan hosts the College of Notre Dame (MD) on Saturday, January 5 at 2 p.m.
