LANCASTER, PA – The Rowan University men’s swim team took first place at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. Rowan totaled 680 points to beat out eight other schools. The women’s swim team placed second out of 10 teams with 548 points.
At Sunday’s session, the men’s 400 freestyle relay won with a time of 3:12.28. The relay was comprised of Kevin Baker (sr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), Kevin Wallace (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Andrew Williams (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) and Dan Kelley (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick).
Baker was first in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.85) and Chris Mahoney (fr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) was sixth (2:21.55). In the 100 freestyle, Kelly finished second (48.28), while Jim Smith (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) was fourth (48.78). Wallace came in second in the 200 butterfly (1:59.95), James Sheerin (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was fourth (2:0057) and Jeremy Soto (so. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) took fifth (2:01.67). Brian McDermott (fr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) captured fifth place in the 200 backstroke (2:01.91).
The women’s 400 freestyle relay had a fourth place finish (3:45.17). Alicia Mackleer (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Christine DiRubbo (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Janina Wojcik (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) and Aileen Milde (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) made up the relay.
Samantha Edwards (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:52.15. Samantha King (so. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) came in third place in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.20). Kate Winters (fr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) took third in the 200 backstroke (2:14.32). In the 100 freestyle, Mackleer and Milde finished fourth (55.58) and fifth (55.84) respectively. Anne O’Gorman (fr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) placed fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:18.98).
On Saturday, in the evening session, the men won both the 200 medley (1:36.80) and 800 freestyle relays (7:06.12). Baker, Kevin Ovalle (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Wallace and Smith comprised the medley relay. The freestyle relay consisted of Sheerin, Williams, Wallace and Baker.
Baker took first place in the 400 individual medley (4:10.42) and Wallace was first in the 100 butterfly (52.06). Sheerin came in third in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.52), while Mahoney and Ovalle were fifth (1:02.07) and sixth (1:02.37) respectively. In the 100 backstroke, Billy Swenson (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/St. Joseph (Metuchen)) placed fourth (55.66) and Smith was sixth (56.10).
The women captured third place in the 400 freestyle relay (8:12.91) and fourth place in the 200 medley relay (1:54.41). Milde, Wojcik, Edwards and Winters made up the freestyle relay. The medley relay included Winters, King, Wojcik and Mackleer.
Winters came in third in the 100 backstroke (1:01.76). Edwards finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.26. King was fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.34).
In the morning session, the men won the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.75) and took second in the 400 medley relay (3:33.50). The freestyle relay consisted of Smith, Williams, Ovalle and Kelley. Swenson, Baker, Wallace and Kelley made up the medley relay.
Smith captured first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.79. Ovalle and Kelley followed third (21.95) and fourth (22.00) respectively. Baker came in first in the 200 individual medley (1:56.60). Sheerin was fourth (2:00.52) and Williams took sixth (2:01.64). Wallace had a fifth place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:57.22).
The women’s 200 freestyle relay came in third place (1:41.46), while the 400 medley relay was fourth (4:13.22). Stacey Rahter (fr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Wojcik, Milde and Mackleer swam the freestyle relay. The medley relay was composed of Winters, Meghan McCourt (so. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Rahter and Mackleer.
Mackleer finished second in the 50 freestyle (25.21). Milde trailed in fifth place (25.44), while Wojcik was sixth (25.49). In the 500 freestyle, Edwards captured second with a time of 5:16.77. King and Rahter were third (2:16.21) and fourth (2:16.68) respectively in the 200 individual medley. Winters followed in sixth place (2:18.48).
