GLASSBORO, NJ – Four players scored in double figures to lead the Rowan University women’s basketball team over visiting York College (PA) on Tuesday night.

Forward Jillian Kane (so. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) led the Profs with 15 points and guard Brynn DeGroff (jr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) followed with 12. Guard Gina Catanzariti (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and forward Ashley Cieplicki (jr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) contributed with 11 and 10 points respectively. Guard Michele Lala (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) grabbed nine rebounds and guard Kristina Wallace (sr. Logan Twp., NJ) recorded a career-high 10 assists.

Rowan is 5-3 on the season while York has a 6-3 record. For the Spartans, guard Keli Ward (jr. Nottingham, PA/Oxford) scored 15 points. Forward Chanel Perez (jr. Biglerville, PA/Gettysburg) and guard April Sparkman (fr. Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) added 12 points apiece. Sparkman also totaled eight boards. Guard Amanda Andrews (jr. Fallston, MD/Fallston) had 11 points and six rebounds. Forward Kristen Daly (sr. Harrisburg, PA/Trinity) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

York started the final period with a jumper by Daly to lead by five points (41-36) at 19:48. Rowan had a 15-2 surge for an eight point advantage (51-43) at 13:27. Kane hit a three that put the Profs up by two (45-43) at 15:53. Rowan did not trail for the remainder of the game. The Profs’ biggest lead was 10 points, the last time (76-66) came with 36 seconds left when Wallace made a free throw. The Spartans had two straight three-pointers to cut the deficit to four (76-72) at the seven second mark. Guard Gayle Exley (fr. Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) made the first one and Ward hit the second. Cieplicki added two foul shots with five ticks left on the clock. Kane totaled 13 points in the last stanza.

In the first half, Rowan had a six point advantage (8-2) after a layup by guard Nicole Perrini (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills). York went on a 16-2 run in a four minute span to lead 18-10 at 13:05. Andrews nailed three three-pointers, Perez had two baskets and Ward made a three. The Profs pulled within two points (22-20) at 9:11 on Lala’s jumper. The Spartans were ahead by seven points (32-25) at the six minute mark. The Profs had three straight baskets and trailed by one (32-31) with 3:32 remaining. Forward Amanda Jennings (so. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) contributed with four points and Lala had two. York was up by three points (39-36) at the intermission. Andrews ended the period with 11 points.

Rowan is at home again on Saturday, December 15 against Widener University at 1 p.m.
