GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University swimming and diving teams hosted the Rowan Cup Races on Saturday, November 17. The event was an individual competition that included Adelphi University, Cabrini College, Colorado College, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Widener University.

In the morning session, the Rowan men won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:18.18. The relay consisted of Kevin Baker (sr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), Stephen Tucker (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart), Kevin Wallace (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Dan Kelley (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick).

Wallace took first in the 100 butterfly (53.90) and second in the 500 freestyle (5:04.16). Baker had a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (55.22) and he was third in the 100 butterfly (54.41). In the 50 freestyle, Kevin Ovalle (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Andrew Williams (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) and Kelley placed first (22.67), second (22.86) and third (22.94) respectively.

Bryan Carlisle (jr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) captured first in the three meter diving with 515.00 points. He was also second in the one meter (433.70 points). Mark Balesteri (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) took third in both the one (372.50 points) and three meter events (388.35 points).

The women won the 200 medley (1:57.27) and 400 freestyle relays (3:50.91). The medley relay was comprised of Kate Winters (fr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (fr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (fr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Alicia Mackleer (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest). Janina Wojcik (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Stephanie McAllister (so. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Rahter and Mackleer were on the freestyle relay.

Julianne Furdyna (fr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) took first place in the 500 freestyle (5:33.17) and second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.31). Winters finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:02.29) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.66). Mackleer won the 50 freestyle (25.66) and Wojcick followed second (25.71). Meghan McCourt (so. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Christine DiRubbo (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Rahter came in first (1:11.95), second (1:12.94) and third (1:13.10) respectively in the 100 breaststroke. Wojcik won the 100 butterfly (1:03.10) and O’Gorman was second (1:04.48). Aileen Milde (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) was third in the 200 individual medley (2:23.91).

In the evening session, the men’s 200 freesytyle relay finished second in 1:31.53. Wallace, Williams, Jim Smith (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) and Kelley made up the relay. The 800 freestyle relay team of Baker, Wallace, Sean Downey (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Kyle Mongelluzzo (so. Newfield, NJ/Delsea Reg.) was also second with a time of 7:37.27.

Baker won the 400 individual medley (4:19.11) and 200 backstroke (1:59.93). In the 100 freestyle, Kelly, Williams and Ovalle came in first (50.36), second (50.42) and third (50.88) respectively. Cliff Melder (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:09.68) and Wallace took third in the 200 butterfly (2:30.97).

The women were first in the 200 freestyle (1:43.51), 400 medley (4:20.99) and 800 freestyle relays (8:33.47). Wojcik, Milde, DiRubbo and Mackleer comprised the 200 freestyle relay. The 400 medley relay was Becky Goldberg (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), Samantha King (so. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City), Rahter and Lauren Hauser (so. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston). Milde, Wojcik, Samantha Edwards (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) and Winters swam the 800 freestyle relay.

Furdyna captured first place in the 1,000 freestyle (11:24.39). In the 100 freestyle, Mackleer and Milde came in first (55.34) and second (56.47) respectively. O’Gorman took first in the 200 butterfly (2:21.84), followed by McCourt, second (2:27.65). King won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.16. Ashley Gagnon (so. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) placed third in the 400 individual medley (5:04.73).

Rowan’s next meet is at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, December 1-2. The morning session is at 9 a.m. followed by the evening session at 6 p.m.
