GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams defeated Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon. The men had a 123-63 victory while the women won 121-75.

Both the Rowan men’s and women’s swim teams are 3-1 on the season. The Ramapo men and women swimmers each have a 2-3 record.

The Prof men and women took first place in the two relay events and all nine of the individual events. The men had winning times of 1:42.71 and 1:31.07 in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays respectively. The medley relay included Billy Swenson (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/St. Joseph (Metuchen)), Kevin Ovalle (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), David Shinton (sr. Newark, DE/Newark) and Jim Smith (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.). Kevin Baker (sr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), Stephen Tucker (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart), Kevin Wallace (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Dan Kelley (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) made up the free relay.

The women won the 200 medley relay (1:59.44) with Kate Winters (fr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Meghan McCourt (so. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Anne O’Gorman (fr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Stephanie McAllister (so. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.). Janina Wojcik (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Stacey Rahter (fr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Aileen Milde (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and Alicia Mackleer (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) were on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:42.00).

In the men’s individual events, Baker had two first places, the 1,000 (10:14.22) and 500 (4:57.02) freestyles. Wallace was a double winner in the 200 free (1:50.79) and 100 butterfly (54.67). Swenson came in first in the 100 backstroke (56.89). In the 50 freestyle, Smith took first (22.27) followed by Tucker second (23.11). Tucker won the 100 freestyle (51.09) and Jeremy Soto (so. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) finished second (52.08). James Sheerin (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) had a first place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.72 and Shinton was second (2:08.67). Chris Mahoney (fr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) was the winner in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.13).

In the women’s individual events, Winters won the 200 individual medley (2:17.46) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.52). Wojcik was the winner in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.16. She also had a first in the 100 butterfly (1:03.42). In the 1,000 freestyle, Samantha Edwards (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) and Becky Goldberg (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) were first (11:00.24) and second (11:52.66) respectively. Edwards also came in first in the 500 free (5:20.07) and McCourt had a first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.94). Milde won the 50 free in 26.11 and Rahter followed in second place (26.51). In the 100 freestyle, Rahter was the winner (57.03) and Julianne Furdyna (fr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was second (59.86).

Next week, the Profs host the Rowan Cup Races on Saturday, November 17 at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The races will include Adelphi University, Cabrini College, Colorado College, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Widener University.
