Rowan Tops SUNY Cortland, 2-0 in NCAA Second Round

BRUNSWICK, ME – The Rowan University field hockey team won 2-0 over SUNY Cortland in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Saturday.

On Sunday in the third round, Rowan plays host Bowdoin College at 1 p.m. In the second round, Bowdoin (17-0) defeated Skidmore College, 1-0. The third round winner advances to the semifinals and final on Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17 at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA.

Both of the Profs’ goals were scored by forward Danielle Miranda (sr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive). Miranda’s first one came at 12:58 when she tipped in a cross by back Erin Tideman (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.). The second goal, Miranda brought the ball into the circle and blasted a shot that deflected off Red Dragons goalie Stacy Billings into the cage at 28:16. Miranda, the New Jersey Athletic Conference Attack Player of the Year, is the team’s scoring leader with 52 points, 25 goals and two assists.

Cortland took 13 shots while Rowan had 10. In the Profs’ net, goalie Amanda Cucinotti (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made six saves for her sixth shutout of the year. Billings finished the game with six stops.

This is Rowan’s 15th appearance and third straight in the national tournament. Last year, Rowan was knocked out in the second round of the tournament by Cortland, 4-2. The Red Dragons end the season with a 17-4 record. It was Cortland’s ninth straight trip to the NCAAs and 23rd overall.
