Rowan Competes at the NCAA Atlantic Regional

BRONX, NY – The Rowan University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the NCAA Atlantic Regional held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY on Saturday. The men finished 19th out of 39 teams, while the women took 20th among 37 institutions.

New York University took first in the men’s team scoring and SUNY Cortland finished second. The two teams advance to the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday, November 17 in Northfield, MN.

Greg Kuczynski (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) was the first Prof runner to cross the finish line. He came in 57th place with a time of 26:14.9 over the 8,000 meter course. Mike Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) was 61st (26:18.2) and Andrew Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) took 102nd (26:58.7). Dan Ratty (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) and Juan Sanchez (so. Logan Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) rounded out Rowan’s scoring in 165th (28:32.8) and 168th (28:35.3) respectively.

SUNY Geneseo won the women’s team title, followed by SUNY Plattsburgh second. The two schools qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Rowan’s Katelyn Sammon (sr. Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) finished 94th overall in 24:46.5. The women ran on a 6,000 meter course. Angela Patane (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) came in 109th (25.08.0). Laura O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was 140th (25:34.8), while Kerry O’Donnell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) took 143rd (25:45.1). Liz Guarini (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had a 149th place finish with a time of 25:53.8.
