ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Eastern University, 5-1 in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Rowan improves to 6-4, while Eastern has a 9-5 record. The Profs had five different players score. Forwards Danielle Miranda (sr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive), Amanda Greene (jr. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester City), Brielle Moreno (fr. Erial, NJ/Camden Catholic), Nicole Valianti (fr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and midfielder Susan Massara (sr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) each had one goal. Valianti added two assists and Greene had one.
Forward Kim Campbell (jr. Havertown, PA/Great Valley) had the Eagles’ only goal. Back Stephanie Moyer (sr. Telford, PA/Christopher Dock) picked up the assist.
The Profs out shot the Eagles, 16-6. Goalie Amanda Cucinotti (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made four saves for Rowan. In Eastern’s net, goalies Kelly Garland (jr. Lanhartsville, PA/Kutztown) and Rebecca Hewes (sr. Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) each turned away two shots.
Greene put Rowan up 1-0 at 22:41 on a pass from Valianti. Just under seven minutes later, Moreno hit the back of the cage on a feed from Valianti. At 35:00, Valianti scored on a penalty corner. Miranda added an unassisted goal at 38:50 to give the Profs a 4-0 advantage. Campbell got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a goal at 54:23 off of a pass from Moyer. Massara posted an unassisted goal with 4:33 remaining.
Rowan hosts Widener University on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
