MAHWAH, NJ – The Ramapo College women’s volleyball team had a 3-1 win over visiting Rowan University in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday night.
The fourth seed Ramapo (19-10) advances to play at the top seed New Jersey City University in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Thursday, November 1 at 7 p.m. The championship match will be held on Saturday, November 3. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
The Roadrunners were led by outside hitter Maureen Hennecke (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) with 21 kills and six digs. Outside hitter Meagan Taege (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) followed with 12 kills, 15 digs and six service aces. Libero Christine Simmons (sr. Upper Saddle River, NJ/Northern Highlands) recorded 25 digs, while setter Ashley Cornett (sr. Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) had 40 assists.
For Rowan, outside hitter Alexis Louie (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) totaled 17 kills and 11 digs. Outside hitter Siobahn Young (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) compiled 15 kills, 16 digs and four service aces. Setter Chrissy McKay (so. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) contributed with 39 assists and 14 digs, while libero Casey Roselle (fr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) added nine digs.
Rowan finishes the season with an 11-17 record.
