GLASSBORO, NJ – Midfielder Val Davison scored the game-winning goal to give Richard Stockton College a 1-0 victory over Rowan University in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday night.
Davison (sr. Cranbury, NJ/Princeton) kicked in a cross from midfielder Courtney Dougherty (so. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) at 66:30. With the win, third seeded Richard Stockton travels to the top seed The College of New Jersey for the championship game on Friday, November 2 at 3 p.m. TCNJ defeated fourth seeded Montclair State University, 1-0 on Tuesday. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
The Ospreys (18-2-2) have won seven straight games and extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games (11-0-1). The win marked the first time since September 24, 2003 that Richard Stockton defeated Rowan.
Rowan took eight shots, while Richard Stockton had six. Goalkeeper Alex Rogers (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) made three saves for the Ospreys. It was her 10th shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Sarah Volkomer (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) stopped two shots in the Profs’ net.
Rowan (14-4) will have to wait until Sunday, November 4 to see if it receives an at-large bid to the national tournament.
