EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team had a 1-0 win over The College of New Jersey in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday morning.
Midfielder Peter Malkmus (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) recorded the game winning goal on a penalty kick at 41:50. It was his seventh goal on the season.
In the semifinals, Rowan plays at number two Montclair State University on Wednesday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. In the other semifinal game, number one New Jersey City University hosts the first round winner of the Ramapo College/Rutgers-Camden game. The conference final is on Saturday, November 3.
The Profs are 12-7-1 while the Lions have a 10-6-3 record. On Thursday, Rowan defeated TCNJ, 2-1 to clinch the sixth seed in the conference tournament. The College of New Jersey was the third seed.
Rowan goalkeeper Kevin Nuss (sr. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) made four saves for his fourth shutout. TCNJ goalies Steve Scutellaro (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) and Matt Kasperavicius (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) had four and five stops respectively.
