Rowan Takes Third at NJAC Championships

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished third at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships held at Richard Stockton College on Saturday.

The men’s championship was won by The College of New Jersey (22 points) followed by Rutgers-Camden (65 points) then Rowan (75 points). Ramapo College came in fourth (99 points), Richard Stockton (126 points) fifth and Kean University (178 points) sixth. Rutgers-Newark and New Jersey City University were seventh (216 points) and eighth (219 points) respectively.

Mike Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) was the first Prof runner to cross the finish line. Rivera came in eighth with a time of 26:31.67 on the 8,000 meter course. Andrew Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) followed ninth (26:37.99) and Greg Kuczynski (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) was 11th (26:43.29). Dan Ratty (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) and Phil Dunn (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) finished 23rd (27:52.04) and 24th (27:54.62) respectively.

The women’s NJAC title was captured by The College of New Jersey (15 points). Richard Stockton was second (74 points) followed by Rowan (81 points). Ramapo took fourth place (85 points), Rutgers-Camden was fifth (143 points) and New Jersey City came in sixth (164 points).

Katelyn Sammon (sr. Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) was the top finisher for the women. Sammon finished 13th with a time of 25:02.13. Angela Patane (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and Kerry O’Donnell (sr. Toms River, NJ/ Toms River E.) were 14th (25:10.90) and 15th (25:21.15) respectively. Laura O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) took 18th place (25:54.42) and Allison Catenacci (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) completed the scoring 21st (26:20.57).

Next Rowan will compete at the NCAA Atlantic Regional at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY on Saturday, November 10th at 11:30 a.m.
