GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team had a 2-1 victory over 22nd ranked The College of New Jersey to earn a berth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.
Rowan (11-7-1, NJAC 4-4-1) will be the sixth seed in the NJAC tournament. Rowan will play at the third seed The College of New Jersey (10-5-3, NJAC 5-2-2) in the first round on Saturday, October 27 at 11 a.m. The semifinals will be held on Wednesday, October 31 and the final is on Saturday, November 3.
Prof midfielder Michael Pascale (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) scored the game-winner with 11:04 left to play. Midfielder Andrew Finger (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) had the assist. The Lions tied the game (1-1) at 45:49. Back Ryan McMahon (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) put back a pass from forward Chris Nelan (jr. Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights). In the first half, Rowan forward Dwayne Reevey (sr. Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) headed in a cross from forward Tom Gannon (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) at 7:32.
Rowan took 13 shots, while The College of New Jersey had 12. Goalkeeper Kevin Nuss (sr. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) made five saves for the Profs. In the Lions’ net, goalkeepers Steve Scutellaro (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) and Matt Kasperavicius (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) each turned away two shots.
