Women's Volleyball Falls to First Place New Jersey City, 3-0

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The New Jersey City University women’s volleyball team defeated Rowan University, 3-0 on Tuesday night in the last conference game of the regular season.

With the win, the Gothic Knights capture the number one seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament. New Jersey City University is 26-4 overall and undefeated in the conference with an 8-0 mark. Rowan is 9-15 on the season and 4-4 in the NJAC. The Profs will be the fifth seed in the conference tournament next week.

NJCU won 30-17, 30-15 and 30-11. Middle blocker Lizzelle Cintron (sr. Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) recorded 20 kills and she had a .600 hitting percentage. Setter Alex Johanesen (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) totaled 23 assists. Outside hitter Glorinell Pererz (sr. Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) led the team in digs with 12.

For Rowan, outside hitter Alexis Louie (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had five kills and six digs. Outside hitter Siobahn Young (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and middle blocker Theresa Pecoraro (sr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) each had four kills. Pecoraro also contributed with seven digs and Young added five. Setter Chrissy McKay (so. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) totaled 11 assists.

Rowan hosts a tri-match on Saturday, October 27 with Bryn Mawr College and Delaware Valley College. In the first match, Rowan plays Bryn Mawr at 10 a.m. followed by Delaware Valley against Bryn Mawr at noon. In the final match, Delaware Valley meets Rowan at 2 p.m.
