NYU Defeats Rowan, 5-1

NEW YORK, NY – The New York University men’s soccer team had a 5-1 victory over visiting Rowan University in a non-conference game on Wednesday night.

NYU improves to 10-3-1, while Rowan has a 10-6-1 record. The Violets were led by midfielder Jeritt Thayer (sr. Corona del Mar, CA/Corona del Mar) with two goals and one assist. Midfielders Matthew Ramirez (sr. Milltown, NJ/E. Brunswick) and Anthony Tumbiolo (fr. San Diego, CA/St. Augustine) and forward Branden Neal (jr. Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) each added one goal.

Forward Sean Goldsworthy (sr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) scored the lone goal for the Profs. Midfielder Peter Malkmus (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) picked up the assist.

NYU took 19 shots and Rowan had eight. Goalkeeper Marek Urbanski (so. Burlingame, CA/Mills) stopped three shots for the Violets. Goalies Dave Schindewolf (fr. Robbinsville, NJ/Lawrence) and Kevin Nuss (sr. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) made four and one save respectively for the Profs.

Thayer scored NYU’s first two goals at 2:31 and 4:44. His second goal was assisted by forward Adam Dhanens (jr. Bakersfield, CA/Centennial). Just under five minutes later, Ramirez knocked in a pass from Thayer to make the score 3-0. Goldsworthy got Rowan on the scoreboard at 26:08 off of a pass from Malkmus. Neal had an unassisted goal at 26:29 to put the Violets up 4-1. Tumbiolo found the net at 29:52 with a feed from back Devin Freeman-Roche (jr. Putnam Valley, NY/Iona Prep).

Rowan travels to Kean University for a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Saturday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m.
