Women's Soccer Defeats New Jersey City, 6-2

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Forward Michelle Carrocino scored three goals to lead Rowan University over conference opponent New Jersey City University, 6-2 on Wednesday.

Rowan has an overall record of 13-2 and is second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 6-1 mark. New Jersey City is 7-9 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

Carrocino (fr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) also had one assist. She is the Profs’ scoring leader with 22 goals and five assists for 49 points. Forward Dana Ross (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran), back Alicia Kavlunas (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and midfielder Holly Bundy (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) each contributed with a goal. Midfielder Krista Verzi (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) and Ross totaled two assists apiece.

Forward Jennifer Albuja (fr. Union City, NJ/Hoboken) scored two goals for the Gothic Knights. Rowan totaled 30 shots while NJCU took six. In the Profs’ net, goalie Sarah Volkomer (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made six saves. For the Gothic Knights, goalkeeper Kelly Reilly (fr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) stopped 10 shots.

Carrocino recorded the first two goals of the game. Her first one came at 17:36 with an assist from Verzi. At 29:02, Carrocino connected with Ross for a 2-0 advantage. Albuja cut the deficit to one with her first goal at 42:37.

In the second half, Rowan had four unanswered goals. Ross hit the net at 64:21 with an assist from midfielder Kerry Little (sr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro). Carrocini’s third goal came at 66:40 and was assisted by Ross and Verzi. Kavlunas headed in the fifth goal on a corner kick by Carrocino at 73:19. Bundy’s goal was a header with 3:05 remaining. Midfielder/forward Devon Marx (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) picked up the assist. Albuja had her second goal with 48 seconds left on the clock.

Rowan’s next game is at home on Saturday, October 20 against Kean University at 1 p.m.
