GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated visiting Widener University, 5-2 on Wednesday evening.
The win marked head coach Penny Kempf’s 150th victory of her career. In her 10th season, Kempf has a coaching record of 150-38. Rowan has an overall record of 7-4 while Widener is 10-2 on the season.
Forward Danielle Miranda (sr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) led the Profs with two goals. Forwards Rachel Cheafsky (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) and Amanda Greene (jr. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester City, NJ) and midfielder Susan Massara (sr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) each contributed with a goal. Greene also totaled two assists while back Kimberly Brozosky (jr. Richwood, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had one.
For Widener, forwards Erica Rose (jr. Plymouth Meeting, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) and Jaime Carr (sr. Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) each scored once. Midfielders Kelly Eash (so. Glenolden, PA/Marple Newtown) and Stephanie Henson (sr. Milmay, NJ/Millville) had one assist apiece.
Rowan recorded 22 shots and Widener took five. In the Pride’s net, goalie Megan Purcell (fr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) stopped 13 shots. For the Profs, goalie Amanda Cucinotti (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made two saves.
The Profs had a 3-0 advantage after the first half. Cheafsky started the scoring at 4:51 on a pass from Greene. At 17:10, Miranda had her first score with an assist from Brozosky. Her second goal came 18 minutes later and it was unassisted.
In the second period, Massara hit the net for the fourth goal at 37:52 and Greene assisted. Carr put Widener on the scoreboard at 42:08 with a pass from Henson. Rose scored at 67:29 with a feed from Eash. Greene knocked the ball into the Pride’s goal with eight seconds remaining.
Rowan is home again on Saturday, October 13 against conference opponent Montclair State University at 6:30 p.m.
