Baker Scores 28 To Lead Rowan To A 79-68 Win Over Neumann

ASTON, PA – Guard Thomas Baker scored 28 points to lead Rowan University to a 79-68 win over Neumann College in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Baker (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) connected on 13 of 21 field goals with one three and he was one for one from the line. Forward Matt Byrnes (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) added 16 points and seven rebounds. Guard Tim Bowser (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) scored 12 points off the bench. Forward Dwayne Reevey (jr. Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) contributed eight points and a game-high nine rebounds. Guard Dan Reddan (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) pulled down seven boards.

Rowan is 9-2 overall and has won its last six games, while Neumann has a 6-4 record. For the Knights, guard DJ Fritz recorded 27 points and guard Derahn Patrick followed with 23. Patrick was also Neumann’s leader on the boards with eight rebounds.

The Profs were ahead 39-36 after the first half. Rowan built a 10 point advantage (46-36) in the first two minutes of the second period. Neumann outscored Rowan, 23-13 over the next 11 minutes, including a three by Fritz with 6:57 remaining to tie the game (59-59). The Profs responded with 11 unanswered points for a 70-59 lead at 2:47. Bowser and Byrnes each scored four points in the run, while Baker added three. Reevey made a field goal with 2:04 left to put Rowan up by 12. The Knights came within five points (72-67) at 1:25, but guard Dan Cappelluti (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) made four free throws and Bowser had three down the stretch to seal the victory.

In the first half, Rowan trailed 6-5 at 16:00. The Profs went on an 11-3 run over the next three minutes for a 16-9 advantage. Baker scored five points and Reddan, Bowser and Byrnes each had two. Neumann cut the lead to four (16-12) at 12:02 following a three-pointer by guard Mike Hitchens. Rowan went up by 12 points (28-16) with 7:09 remaining after a field goal by Baker. The Knights tied the score at 36 with 2:34 left to play on a three-point basket by Fritz. Reddan made two free throws and guard Kevin Darby (so. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) had one to close out the half.

Baker led all first half scorers with 19 points. Byrnes followed with seven points, while Redden contributed five rebounds. For Neumann, Fritz had 13 points and Patrick added 11.

Rowan hosts Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday, January 10 at 6 p.m.
