York Squeeks By Rowan, 90-83 In Two Overtimes

LYCOMING, PA – The York College (PA) women’s basketball team won 90-83 in two overtimes against Rowan University in the second game of the Hoops for Hounds Tournament at Lycoming College.

In the first game, SUNY Brockport defeated Lycoming College, 60-46. On Saturday, Rowan plays Lycoming in the consolation game at 1 p.m. followed by the championship with York and SUNY Brockport at 3 p.m.

York (7-4) was led by guard Keli Ward (so. Nottingham, PA/Oxford) with a game high 34 points and
forward Kristen Daly (jr. Harrisburg, PA/Trinity) followed with 31. Forward Chanel Perez (so. Biglerville, PA/Gettysburg) and Daly both grabbed 12 rebounds. In addition, Ward dished nine assists and had four steals.

For Rowan (6-5), guard Brynn DeGroff (so. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) compiled 23 points. Guard Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed with 15 points and center Katie Shaw (jr. Wallington, NJ.Wallington) added 14.

In the second overtime, the Spartans outscored the Profs, 16-9. Daly made two straight baskets that put York up 81-75 with 1:30 remaining. Ward was good for two free throws at 1:07 for an eight point lead (83-75). The Spartans then made seven of eight foul shots to seal the victory.

Both teams scored 12 points in the first overtime. DeGroff’s jumper made the score 69-69 with 1:58 left. York had two straight baskets for a 73-69 advantage with 57 seconds on the clock. Wallace hit a jumper to trail by two (73-71) at 0:23. Ward made the second of two free throws at the 10 second mark. With four seconds left, DeGroff hit a three-pointer that tied the score at 74.

At the end of the second half, Wallace made the first of two foul shots tying the game at 62 with 10 seconds remaining. The Profs trailed by 11 points (61-50) at 5:46. They came back with an 11-1 run to pull within one point (62-61) with 1:16 left. Five players contributed with points including DeGroff with a three-pointer.

At halftime, York was ahead 32-31. Ward and Daly totaled 18 and 10 first half points respectively. Shaw led Rowan with 11 points.
