BETHLEHEM. PA– Rowan University’s Aaron Braxton took first place in the shot put at the John Covert Lehigh Classic on Saturday.
Braxton (so. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) had a winning throw of 54’ 7.5” (16.65 meters) that was a NCAA provisional. It is the top toss in the shot put in Division III so far this season. The NCAA provisional requirement is 51’ 0” (15.54 meters) and the automatic is 55’ 8.25” (17 meters).
Chima Nwosu (sr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) finished third in the 400 meters (52.63). Nwosu also anchored the fifth place 4x400 meter relay (3:34.98). The relay also included Joe Minch (sr. Yardville, NJ/Bordentown Reg.), Dan Collier (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and John Barbadoro (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson). The men’s 4x800 meter relay was sixth with a time of 8:42.50. The relay team consisted of Erik Geisinger (sr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City), Dan Urban (sr. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Phil Dunn (jr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Minch.
Andrew Vasta (so. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) had a seventh place in the 3,000 meters (9:26.01). Minch finished eighth in the mile (4:37.32). In the shot put, Anthony Witter (jr. Millville, NJ/Bridgeton) took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 45’ 7.25” (13.90 meters). Collier was 12th in the 400 meters (54.91). Bryan Pittman (sr. New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) finished seventh in the 60 meter dash (7.17) and 13th in the 200 meters (24.44).
Raye Teyssier (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) tied for eighth in the women’s pole vault. Teyssier had a height of 9’ 6.25” (2.90 meters). In the shot put, Karen Johnson (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) took 10th place with 35’ 4.5” (10.78 meters) and Ali Briggs (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) was 12th with 32’ 7.75” (9.95 meters). Dannielle Warren (so. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) finished 11th in the long jump with 16’ 3” (4.95 meters). She also took 20th in the 60 meter hurdles (11.02).
Rowan will compete at the Frank Colden Invitational on Saturday, February 3 at 10 a.m. The invitational is hosted by Ursinus College.
