GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men and women’s swimming teams split with The College of New Jersey on Wednesday. The Rowan women recorded a 155-138 victory, while the TCNJ men won 167.50-130.50.
The Rowan women have a 6-1 record, while the men are 4-3. The College of New Jersey men are 4-3 overall and the women have a 1-7 mark.
The Rowan women won the 200 medley relay (1:54.27) and 400 freestyle relay (3:42.14). The medley relay was comprised of Stephanie McAllister (fr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Samantha King (fr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City), Janina Wojcik (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) and Christine DiRubbo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). Wojcik, Aileen Milde (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury), DiRubbo and Alicia Mackleer (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made up the freestyle relay.
Carey Lafferty (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Caitlin Ayres (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) came in first (11:00.22) and second (11:00.24) respectively in the 1,000 freestyle. Ayres took first place in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.50. McAllister won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.57 and Mackleer followed second with a time of 1:03.75. McAllister also finished first in the 200 backstroke (2:15.80). Mackleer, Wojcik and DiRubbo took first (25.16), second (25.72) and third (25.98) respectively in the 50 freestyle. King won the 200 individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:15.79
Milde was second in the 200 freestyle (2:01.87), with Lisa Rauch (fr. Westfield, NJ/Mt. St. Mary’s) third (2:02.17). Meghan McCourt (fr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) finished second in the 100 breaststroke (N/A). In the 100 freestyle, Mackleer came in second place (54.59) and DiRubbo was third (55.70). King took second place in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.55). In the 500 freestyle, Ayres had a second place finish (5:22.91). Wojcik was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.81.
For TCNJ, Ava Kiss (jr. North Brunswick, NJ/Stuart Country Day School) won the 200 (1:58.40) and 100 freestyle (54.38) and the 100 butterfly (58.52). Emily Reichard (so. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) took first in the 100 (N/A) and 200 breaststroke (2:32.04). Stephanie Seto (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) came in first place in the 500 freestyle in 5:19.53.
Lee Swanson (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) won both the one and three meter diving. In the one meter, she totaled 259.65 points and she had 251.70 points in the three meter. Jessica Lynch (fr. Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford) was second in the one (145.95 points) and the three meter diving (125.55 points).
Stefanie Rashti (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) came in second in the 200 butterfly in 2:17.92. Laura Heslin (sr. Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) was second in the 200 backstroke (2:17.42). Stacy Delehanty (so. Oceanport, NJ/Shore Reg.) had a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:18.84).
The TCNJ men’s 400 freestyle relay took first place in 3:14.41. The freestyle relay included Josh Forsman (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.), Mike Heaney (so. Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace), Kyle King (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Tom Nawrot (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick).
Mike Molloy (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) broke the pool record on his way to winning the 1,000 freestyle in 9:46.22. Molloy also won the 500 freestyle (4:47.64). King won the 100 freestyle in 47.82. Nawrot finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.36. George Savulich (sr. Edison, NJ/St. Joseph’s (Metuchen)) took first place (1:58.62) and Forsman was second (1:59.34) in the 200 butterfly. Forsman came in first in the 100 butterfly (52.51). Heaney won the 200 backstroke (1:59.81), while Gallagher and James VanBiervliet (fr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) followed second (2:00.23) and third (2:02.51) respectively.
Greg Lloyd (so. Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) finished in first place in both the one and three meter diving. In the one meter, he totaled 301.50 points and he had 302.63 points in the three meter.
Ted Yoa (so. Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) took second place in the 100 (1:01.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:15.83). Gallagher finished second in the 200 IM (2:00.09). King came in second place in the 200 freestyle (1:45.96) and the 50 freestyle (22.46). Josh Schoenfeld (jr. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was second in the 100 freestyle in 10:32.01.
For Rowan, the men won the 200 medley relay in 1:38.47. The medley relay consisted of Kevin Baker (jr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), Kevin Ovalle (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Kevin Wallace (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Dan Kelley (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick). The 400 freestyle relay of Kelley, Nick Giacopelli (sr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), Wallace and Andrew Donachy (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) was second with a time of 3:16.51.
Giacopelli finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.68). Baker won the 100 (59.70) and 200 breaststroke (2:10.67) and 200 IM with a time of 1:59.27. Kelley took first in the 50 freestyle (22.31) and second in the 100 freestyle (48.99).
In the 100 backstroke, Christopher Sykes (sr. Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Reg.) and Jeremy Soto (fr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) came in second (56.21) and third (56.61) respectively. Wallace was second in the 100 butterfly in 53.18.
In the one meter diving, Jeff Brinberg (sr. Atlantic City, NJ/Ventnor) came in second place with 294.15 points. Bryan Carlisle (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) followed third (266.80 points). In the three meter diving, Carlisle finished second with 292.20 points.
Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, January 27 at 1 p.m. The College of New Jersey hosts New York University on Sunday, January 28 at 1 p.m.
