Salisbury Gets 66-56 Win Over Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Jessica Mills scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Salisbury University over host Rowan University, 66-56 on Monday.

The Sea Gulls also had 10 points from forward Meghan Klug. Forward Marissa Manzo pulled down a game-high 12 boards. Guard Jenna Peters totaled four assists and four steals.

Salisbury improves to 10-7 on the season while Rowan has an 8-9 record. For the Profs, forward Lauren Byrne (sr. Paulsboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) scored 15 points and guard Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) followed with 14. Byrne also totaled eight rebounds. Center Katie Shaw (jr. Wallington, NJ/Wallington) was in double figures with 12 points.

Salisbury trailed 33-28 at the intermission. The Sea Gulls started the second half with 10 straight points to lead 38-33 at 16:47. Mills and Klug each had four points and Peters made two. Klug made the score 42-37 with 13:18 remaining. The Profs tied the score at 42 after Shaw’s layup (11:22) and two foul shots (10:27) and Byrne’s one free throw (10:08). Salisbury retook the lead (49-42) with seven unanswered points with 8:30 left. Mills made two layups and guard Victoria Lawson hit a three. Guard Meghan Phillips was good for two fouls shots for an eight point advantage (59-51) at 3:45. Rowan trailed by three after Wallace’s layup (3:24) and a three-pointer (2:42) by guard Brynn DeGroff (so. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood). Salisbury ended the game with a 7-0 run. Phillips made the first two baskets and guard Lindsay Martin had a three-point play.

There were three ties in the first half with the last one coming at 5:48. Wallace had a layup that tied the game at 23. Salisbury had its last lead (26-25) after Lawson’s basket with 4:59 remaining. The Profs had an 8-2 surge in the remainder of the period to go up 33-28. Byrne scored four points while Wallace and Shaw had two apiece. Mills led both teams with 12 first half points and Wallace scored nine.
