Rowan Loses NJAC Game To Rutgers-Camden, 74-67

GLASSBORO, NJ – Guard Krystal Jankowski recorded a triple-double to lead Rutgers-Camden over Rowan University, 74-67 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.

Jankowski (jr. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) scored a game-high 16 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and tied her career-high with 11 assists. Forward Jennifer Christy (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) followed with 15 points and nine boards. Also in double digits were guards Jennifer Williams (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) and Imani Hafiz (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Rutgers-Camden improves to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Rowan is 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC. Forward Lauren Byrne (sr. Paulsboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) led the Profs with 13 points and nine rebounds. Guard Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) added 11 points off the bench. Guard Brynn DeGroff (so. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) scored 10 points.

Rowan was ahead 35-34 at halftime. Rutgers-Camden started the second period with a 7-0 run. Christy had five points in the stretch. The Profs fought back and the score was tied three more times with the last one (52-52) coming at 9:22. The Scarlet Raptors took a five point advantage (58-53) at 7:52 on a jumper by Christy. Rowan came within two points (62-60) at 5:02, but Rutgers-Camden made eight free throws in the last three minutes to secure the victory. Williams and Jankowski hit four foul shots apiece.

In the first half, the score was tied (3-3) at 17:52. Rutgers-Camden went on an 8-0 run to lead 11-3 at 16:07. Rowan came within two (11-9) at 14:17 after a layup by DeGroff. The Scarlet Raptors increased their lead to seven (20-13) on a jumper by guard Amber Parker (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) at 11:08. Massara connected on a three-pointer and Byrne followed with a jumper to bring the score to 20-18 at 9:30. After two more ties, Rowan finally went ahead by three (35-32) on a layup by Byrne with 50 seconds remaining. Williams’ jumper with nine seconds left brought the Scarlet Raptors within one point at the half.

Byrne had 11 points and eight rebounds in the first period. DeGroff added seven points for the Profs. Williams led Rutgers-Camden with seven points, while Jankowski and Christy had six points apiece.

Rowan travels to NJAC opponent The College of New Jersey on Saturday, January 13 at 1 p.m. Rutgers-Camden hosts The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 p.m.
