Rowan Field Hockey Defends Home Opener vs. Washington College, 3-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Danielle Miranda scored two goals to lead the Rowan University field hockey team to a 3-0 win over visiting Washington College (MD) on Thursday.

Midfielder Colleen McGowan (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) put Rowan up 1-0 with a goal at 8:28 in the first half. Miranda (jr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) made the score 2-0 at 46:22 when she put back a deflection from back Erin Tideman (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.). Miranda’s second goal came 1:55 later off of a pass from midfielder Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton).

Rowan (3-0) outshot Washington (0-3), 36-3. Goalie Amanda Cucinotti (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) stopped two shots for her third shutout of the season. Elena Nicholoff (fr. Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made 15 saves in the first half for the Shorewomen. Erin O’Brien (jr. Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) recorded nine saves in the second half.

Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Tuesday, September 12 for a 7 p.m. game.
