GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Jackie Kane scored three goals and midfielder Krista Verzi had two to lead Rowan University over New Jersey City University, 6-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
Rowan is undefeated with an 8-0 record and a 2-0 conference mark. The Profs are ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 23rd in the nation. NJCU is 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.
Kane (sr. Avenel, NJ/Woodbridge) had the first three goals of the game. She scored at 10:56 and 31:01 with assists from midfielder Emilie Wilson (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and midfielder Jenna Balestriere (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood). Kane’s third goal came at 33:14.
Verzi (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran) scored the fourth goal (38:34) with a pass from back Ashley Schaffer (fr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). Midfielder Samantha Mendek (so. Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) ended the first half scoring at 39:47. The Profs’ final goal was by Verzi at 76:35 and Schaffer got her second assist.
Rowan totaled 40 shots while NJCU only had one. Goalie Melissa Hall (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) played the first half in the Profs’ net and had one save. Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) was in goal for the second period. For the Gothic Knights, goalie Alexis Chisari (jr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) stopped 18 shots.
Next week, Rowan plays at conference opponent Richard Stockton College on Wednesday, September 27 at 6 p.m.
