GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team tied Rutgers-Camden, 2-2 after two overtimes in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.
Rowan’s overall record stands at 6-2-1 and 0-1-1 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden is 3-2-2 overall and has a 1-0-1 mark in the conference.
In the second half, Rutgers-Camden sent the game into overtime when back Ryan Evans (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) knocked in a cross from midfielder Rodney Guishard (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) with 1:01 remaining on the clock. Midfielder James Fiorani (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) also assisted on the play. Rowan went ahead 2-1 at 72:15. Back Dave Smith (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) headed in a free kick by back Doug Johnson (sr. Shamong, NJ/Shawnee).
The Profs got on the scoreboard at 16:31 in the first half. Forward Dwayne Reevey (sr. Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) put back a shot in the box. Back Andrew Bergman (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) and forward Robert McMullen (sr. Barrington, NJ/Northern Burlington) each picked up an assist. The Scarlet Raptors tied the game at 40:40 when back Chris Amato (jr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) headed in a pass from midfielder Michael Reed (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.).
Rutgers-Camden outshot Rowan 23-21. Profs’ goalie Anthony Clemente (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) made 14 saves. Goalie David Cunningham (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) stopped 11 shots for the Scarlet Raptors.
Rowan is away at conference opponent New Jersey City University on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m., while Rutgers-Camden hosts Kean University at 1 p.m.
