NEWARK, NJ – The Rutgers-Newark women’s volleyball team won 3-0 over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Rowan University. The Scarlet Raiders had game scores of 30-24, 30-17 and 30-22.

For Rutgers-Newark, Rachel Guyt (fr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley), Katlyn Lewis (fr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and Jesica Cockerham (fr. Keller, TX/Fossil Ridge) combined for 26 kills, eight aces and 25 digs. Guyt had a match high of 11 kills and hit .375. Lewis had a hitting percentage of .381 with 10 kills and 13 digs. Cockerman served five aces and added five kills and 12 digs.

Naly Hasanizadeh (so. Katy, TX/Alief Hastings) hit .667 with six kills in nine attempts with 25 assists and two aces. Rutgers-Newark is 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. Rowan has an overall record of 2-9 and a 0-2 conference mark.

Karen Ramirez (fr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) led the Profs with six kills and 15 digs that was a match high. Alexis Louie (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) contributed with five kills and Theresa Pecoraro (jr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) added eight digs.

Rowan continues its conference schedule at home on Thursday, September 21 against William Paterson University at 7 p.m.
