Rowan Loses NJAC Opener To Montclair State, 3-1

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Montclair State University men’s soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-1 win over conference opponent Rowan University.

The Red Hawks are 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. In the Metro Region Rankings, Montclair State was fifth this week followed by Rowan sixth. The Profs are
5-2 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

MSU got on the scoreboard first when forward Tyler Masterson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) hit the back of the net at 28:53 with an assist from midfielder Joe Cullen (fr. Clementon, NJ/Highland Reg.). Forward Robert McMullen (sr. Barrington, NJ/Northern Burlington) tied it at 54:39 on a pass from forward Sean Docherty (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.). It was McMullen’s fourth goal on the year.

The Red Hawks then had two straight scores from midfielder Bill Anthes (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), 69:15 and forward Ryan Morgan (sr. Princeton, NJ/Princeton), 72:08. Montclair State took 17 shots while Rowan had eight. The Red Hawks’ goalie Nick Mele (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) made six saves and the Profs’ goalie Anthony Clemente (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) stopped six shots.

Rowan is back at home on Monday, September 18 against Lincoln University at 7:30 p.m.
