Messiah Defeats Rowan, 3-1

GRANTHAM, PA – The second ranked Messiah College field hockey team defeated visiting Rowan University, 3-1 on Thursday night. The Falcons are undefeated with a 4-0 record.

Messiah had a 3-0 lead after the first half. Forward Nikki Bailey (so. Elliottsburg, PA/West Perry) scored the first goal at 15:26 with a pass from forward Lindsay Garber (jr. Ephrata, PA/Ephrata). At 17:00, forward Lisa Strausbaugh (jr. Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) had an unassisted goal. The final score was by forward Tiffany Leatherman (so. Telford, PA/Christopher Dock) and Garber assisted at 32:35.

Rowan’s lone goal came at 41:24 when forward Rachel Cheafsky (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) put back a pass from midfielder Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton). Messiah took 17 shots while Rowan had 10. In the Profs’ goal, Amanda Cucinotti (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made nine saves. For the Falcons, Ashley Mowery (fr. Mechanicsburg, PA/Northern) stopped four shots.

This week, the Profs (3-2) were ranked fourth in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coaches Poll. Rowan is back home on Thursday, September 21 against Cabrini College at 7 p.m.
